The North West Provincial Treasury continues to uphold standard for good governance and
financial management within provincial administration. The department has maintained its clean
audit outcome for the twelfth consecutive year, reaffirming its commitment to accountability and
transparency.
This announcement was made during the release of the 2024/25 Public Finance Management
Act (PFMA) provincial audit outcomes by the Auditor-General, Ms. Tsakani Maluleke, at a
meeting held with Premier Lazarus Mokgosi, Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature
Ms. Desbo Mohono, Deputy Speaker Mr. Collen Maine, and Standing Committee on Public
Accounts (SCOPA) Chairperson Mr. Smuts Matshe at Rio Casino and Hotel in Klerksdorp.
Clean Audit status signifies that an institution’s financial statements are free from material
misstatements, and that there are no significant findings relating to performance reporting or
legislative non-compliance.
The Head of Department, Mr. Ndlela Kunene, who has led the Provincial Treasury for the past
decade, described the outcome as a remarkable collective achievement. He expressed his
appreciation to all managers and staff members for their dedication and contribution to
maintaining the clean audit status.
Finance MEC, Ms. Kenetswe Mosenogi welcomed the achievement, noting that there is a clear
link between clean audits and departmental mandate. “Receiving a clean audit status
demonstrates that the department entrusted with managing public funds is leading by example.
However, the department still has greater responsibility to ensure that other departments and
municipalities in the province improve their audit outcomes,” she said.
END.
