Lerome: As Social Development Month activities continue across the province, the Bakgatlha Ba Kgafela Tribal Authority invited the North West Provincial Treasury and the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) to take services to the people in Lerome, a far-flung village under Moses Kotane Local Municipality.

The outreach, held in Lerome, is part of government’s commitment to bring services closer to rural communities and ensure that geographic distance does not become a barrier to economic participation.

Provincial Treasury’s Provincial Supply Chain Management Programme rendered Central Supplier Database (CSD) services to community members, NPO’s and local SMMEs with on-site registration on the CSD, updating compliance documents. Officials educated emerging entrepreneurs how to become suppliers to government, how to correctly complete tender documents, avoid common compliance pitfalls and take advantage of procurement opportunities in the province.

DEDECT was represented by its Business Regulations and Enterprise Development programmes, working alongside the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC). The teams presented step-by-step guidance on how to register a business, formalise existing enterprises, understand business compliance requirements, access markets and apply for available funding and enterprise support.

Participants were taken through practical sessions on registering and reserving business names through CIPC, formalising informal businesses and cooperatives, consumer protection and business licensing requirements, market access opportunities and linkages and how to apply for enterprise development funding and support programmes

The collaboration with the Bakgatlha Ba Kgafela Tribal Authority ensured strong community turnout and meaningful engagement, with traditional leadership playing a key role in mobilising residents and SMMEs from Lerome and surrounding villages.

This integrated service delivery model directly supports Provincial Treasury’s mandate of ensuring transparent, effective and economic use of public resources, while also advancing DEDECT’s mandate of growing an inclusive economy and creating jobs. By empowering rural SMMEs to be CSD-compliant and business-registered, government is opening doors for local entrepreneurs to participate in the mainstream economy.

Provincial Treasury and DEDECT reaffirmed their commitment to continue partnering with traditional authorities to take services to far-flung areas, in line with the spirit of provincial government’s accelerated service delivery and the Social Development Month theme of building resilient communities.

End.
